30th April

Castlederg went to Fintona last night for their third round All County League fixture hoping to build on their good start to the season and to capitalise on the home side’s current poor form. After a compelling sixty minutes of football it was the Derg who came away with the points following a 1-10 to 1-7 three point win. This leaves Fintona pointless after three games and all but rules them out of making a serious challenge for promotion from Junior football via the league. But for Castlederg it is a case of two away wins on the bounce and just the perfect response to their opening day defeat at home to Drumquin.
Castlederg opened the scoring but two Fintona points put the home side ahead. However The Pearses were wasteful in attack throughout the first half and ended that period with nine wides to the visitor’s three. Castlederg took full advantage of this to lead at the break 1-3 to 0-4 with their goal coming from Paddy Lynch.
After a strong talking to at half time (from manager John Lynch) the Derg came out flying in the 2nd half with Marty Harvey in midfield and the excellent Brian Coyle (captain) leading the way. Substitute Caolan Harvey and the evergreen Aidan Lynch showed well for the winners. The Derg outscored Fintona six points to two in the second half as the game entered the final five minutes to lead by 1-10 to 0-6. By this time the 2 points were in the bag and even a late rally from Fintona with a goal and a point only succeeded in giving the scoreline an air of respectability.
Final score Fintona 1-7 Castlederg 1-10
Derg scorers: Mark Corry 0-4 (2frees), Aiden Lynch 0-3, Paddy Lynch 1-2, Ciaran Harper 0-1

The schedule of games over the Easter weekend has ensured that there will be lots of talking points in all three divisions with some big clashes down for decision. However even before the weekend arrives GAA supporters in Tyrone will be discussing tonight’s result from Carrickmore. Castlederg travelled to Pairc Colmcille and recorded a memorable 1-14 to 0-10 victory. It was just the lift the Derg needed following their opening day defeat against Drumquin. Mark Corry top scored for the winners with seven points to his name and was joined on the score board by Ciaran Harper 1-0, Paddy Lynch 0-3, Aidan Lynch 0-2 and a point each from Kevin Mc Laughlin and Martin Harvey.
